I Tried Viral SEO Tips to Rank #1 in Google
TikTok is full of viral “hacks,” and SEO is no exception. But the real question is: do any of them actually work?
To find out, I tested some of the most popular SEO tips that have racked up tens (even hundreds) of thousands of views on TikTok. From internal linking tricks to ChatGPT prompts and keyword hunts on Reddit, I tried it all—so you don’t have to.
Let’s break down what happened.
1. The Internal Linking Hack (2,000 Views)
Claim: You can go from page two to page one on Google just by adding internal links.
The Process:
-
Run a crawl using Ahrefs Webmaster Tools (free account works).
-
Go to the Internal Link Opportunities report.
-
Find a keyword you're already ranking for on page two.
-
Add internal links to that page using the exact anchor text Ahrefs suggests.
I tried this by updating internal links for our Core Web Vitals guide. The tip promised page-one results in days…
Result?
48 hours later: nothing.
But SEO takes time, so I stayed patient. Meanwhile, I moved on to the next viral trick.
2. Update Old Content Using Google Search Console (15,000 Views)
Claim: Reviving traffic is as simple as refreshing your most-declined pages.
How to Do It:
-
Open Google Search Console.
-
Compare traffic YoY (year over year).
-
Identify pages that lost the most clicks.
-
Update and republish those pages.
I discovered one post had lost 20,000 clicks. We updated it using our tried-and-true process (the one from this guide).
Result?
We jumped from position 16 → 5 → 4 in under 24 hours. And traffic doubled in just a few weeks.
✅ This tip is certified legit.
3. Fooling AI Detectors with Quillbot (37,000 Views)
Claim: You can “trick” Google by rewriting AI-generated content to pass AI detection tools.
The Reality?
-
The paraphrased content was barely readable.
-
Even the TikTok creator admitted the outputs were garbage.
Plus, trying to bypass AI detection tools is like playing SEO on hard mode—for no reason. Instead of trying to trick Google, just focus on content quality and intent.
Result?
🚫 This one’s pure junk.
4. Finding Low-Competition Keywords Using Reddit (150,000 Views)
Claim: If Reddit is ranking in Google’s top 10, you can easily outrank it with a well-written blog.
The Method:
-
Find a niche subreddit.
-
Paste the URL into Ahrefs' Site Explorer.
-
Check which keywords Reddit ranks for.
-
Target those keywords with helpful blog posts.
I wrote a new article for the keyword "is marketing a good major", and published it on a decent DR49 site.
Result?
From nowhere → position 24 in just a few days. Not bad.
But with Reddit’s current SEO favoritism (Google loves them now), this method doesn’t guarantee page-one anymore. Still useful though, especially on lower volume queries.
5. ChatGPT as Your Personal SEO Assistant (200,000 Views)
Claim: Tell ChatGPT to “act like an expert SEO,” and it will write content that ranks.
I gave it the prompt, asked it for SEO goals, target keywords, and a blog outline. Then I asked it to write a post on the history of putters (yes, really).
The Outcome? The post made it to position 10 in organic rankings.
Surprise twist: this was the only post that cracked the top 10.
Still… don’t rely on AI alone. The post had little traffic because no one searches for it. Lesson learned: even good rankings won’t save you if search demand is missing.
6. Request Indexing in Search Console (305,000 Views)
Claim: Get your pages ranked on Google faster by manually submitting them in Google Search Console.
What It Actually Does:
It gets your content indexed faster—not ranked.
I tried this on a new blog post. Within hours, it appeared in Google’s index.
Result?
✅ This tip is totally legit (and I use it often). Quick indexing is key, especially when you’ve just published or updated a page.
7. Answer Questions People Ask (1.5 Million Views)
Claim: Go to AnswerThePublic, find real questions, Google them, and create your own version of the top articles.
The Concept:
-
Focus on intent and helpfulness.
-
Don’t overthink SEO tricks—just create great content.
I followed this exactly and wrote 10 blog posts using her process.
Result? One made it to position 10 in organic rankings (thanks to the ChatGPT tip), but most of them… barely got any impressions.
Why? Because the topics had low or no search demand.
Intent matters, but you still need:
-
Keyword research
-
Internal linking
-
Good content structure
So, Do These Viral SEO Hacks Actually Work?
Yes and no.
Here’s what I learned:
Tip | Outcome |
---|---|
Internal linking | Good, but needs time |
Updating old posts | ✅ Legit |
Quillbot rewrite trick | 🚫 Trash |
Reddit keyword hunting | Still useful |
ChatGPT prompts | Decent with the right strategy |
Requesting indexing | ✅ Fast & effective |
Answering user questions | Good in theory—but pair it with research |
Final Thoughts
Most TikTok SEO tips aren’t totally wrong. The issue? They’re only one piece of the puzzle.
To get consistent, long-term results, you need a holistic SEO strategy:
-
Keyword research
-
Content that matches intent
-
Solid technical setup
-
Link building
-
And yes—internal linking too
